The specialists of the TINRO-Center and the KamchatNIRO have submitted the forecast as for the

Bering sea Alaska Pollock season up to the end of the 2006.

As for the time-frame the forecast embraces the Spring-Summer, Summer, Autumn and the beginning of the Winter seasons and covers the main fishing grounds of the

Bering sea in the exclusive economic zone of Russia, - Navarin area and the coastal waters of the Koryak shore with the adjacent main-land slopes. According to the scientists deductions, the alimentary base for Alaska Pollock in the North-West part of the Bering sea is expected to be at the level of the 2005, the intensity and the approach volumes of Alaska Pollock of all the age groups would grow as usually within the summer time and would reach their maximum in the end of the summer season. The Total allowable catching of Alaska Pollock in the

West Bering sea zone for 2006 has been determined in the amount of 467 thousand MT, out of which 10 thousand tons are the by-catch. Next year the TINRO-Center proposes to establish the TAC in the amount of 437 thousand MT. However the All-Russia scientific-research institute of fishery and oceanography (VNIRO) considers those figures exaggerated and proposes to reduce the catching to 339 thousand MT. In the end of April there should take place a conference in the VNIRO, where the proposals of the fishery industry science are to be corrected as for the volume to catch Alaska Pollock in 2007.

In the meantime the Primorye fishermen have ended the Alaska Pollock season in the

Okhotsk sea. According to the preliminary results the level of the quotas use can be compared with the induces of the previous year – some 97%. The rest of the quotas should be used by the fishing companies as a by-catch at catching the other species of the marine living resources.
