The Sea urchin TAC should be increased

It was what the fishermen were talking about at the recent working meeting in the Administration of the Primorsky territory

At the recent working meeting in the Administration of the Primorsky territory the fishermen and the specialists of the Department for fishery of the Administration were talking about the Sea-urchin catching organization in 2007. The Head of the Department for fishery of the Primorsky territory Administration, Igor Uleyskiy, the first vice-president of the APFIC, Alexander Platonov and the representatives of enterprises, engaged in this type of catching were participating to the event. One of the main problems to restrain the development of this type of catching in the Primorye sub-zone there was named the small quota allocated for the Primorsky territory – only 600 tons.  In the mean time at

Sakhalin the total allowable catching (TAC) amounts to 10 thousand MT.

As for the results of the working session it was decided to establish a working group to study the possibilities of increasing the Sea-urchin TAC in 2008. For the purpose there will be necessary to conduct the survey of the Sea-urchins resources in the Primorye sub-zone at the depths of more than 20 meters. The working group is composed of the representatives of enterprises, engaged in this type of catching and the science. The coordination of working group’s activities will be waged by the Association of the Primorye fishery industry companies. According to the first vice-president of the APFIC, Alexander Platonov, «The science should apply more efforts to study the coastal zone, to study the possibilities on increasing the volumes of catching the exploited objects and to propose to the industry the new and under-exploited objects of catching».
